Join me for tea and cookies on Sunday October 25th at Tidal Art Centre in Lund, BC
On display will be all of the art I excited about and have been playing and experimenting on this month during my time as Artist in Residence (AiR!).
This lovely, tranquil space in a vibrant art centre perched on the edge of the ocean at Finn Bay has been my home and art studio for the entire month of October. It took a few days for my ears to adjust to the quiet. It took some time to find structure to my days so I could take advantage of the gift of time to make art.
The friendly people in the neighbouring area, the beautiful nature around me have all supported and encouraged me in my art making. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to be here. All the hard work over the years has paid off! Now I am making the most of this uniquely special moment in time, in a cultivating space, surrounded by amazing art.
The art collection here is a wonder in itself. There is often laughter in the air during ceramic classes, and quite often a fabulous group art show is on display in the main level gallery.
I am a swimmer, and I cannot resist the clear, emerald ocean outside my door. Every sunny day I put on my wetsuit and spend time going for a swim. I love the iron coloured rocks, shelves of granite dipping into the sea. The shoreline is where orange granite meets the green water. And it is so beautiful!
I went out on my paddle board in search of fruiting Arbutus trees. This time of year the trees look orange from a distance, from their upright stems of bright round berries. A rather large seal interrupted my paddle with a plunge close to the nose of my board. I must have been messing with his fishing spot, and decided to give him space. Without hesitation.
If you are in the area of Desolation Sound to Powell River on the upper Sunshine Coast, please do come and visit on Sunday October 25th. Get a glimpse of the art making I have undertaken while surrounded by and inspired by the nature that surrounds me, see an artist’s process and works in progress. Experience the stunning post and beam structure that elevates Tidal Art Centre into a modern, comfortable third space for the community.
I have been painting upstairs in the Artist’s residence using easels and a giant dining table, as well as drawing in pen and ink and making Lino prints and cards downstairs in one of the dedicated studio spaces.
